It is said that the flame of the Lampad’s Torch {A Lampad is a Torch-bearing Nymph} will drive to insanity the one who looks into. Aye but does that mean that the Lampad is looking for just such an outcome? Perhaps she is one for mercy. As I wrestled with the idea the look in her face began to take on an intriging look. Whilst I love the how the light and shadow play upon her dress and skin- it is the expression somewhere between kindness and pragmatism that beckons me to contemplate the direction of her thoughts.

There is a haunting quality here between the hot light and the cool shadows. I feel like this piece has the ability to calm and sooth or ignite and excite. The Lampad is one of several in a procession of her kind who follow Hecate. The great Goddess of the Underworld- a former Titan whom Zues allowed to live and who commands the respect of Zues brother Hades. As such Hecate may roam the earth, and the Underworld at will. Coming and going. And when she returns- there are her sweet Lampads waiting to make her feel cared for.
