This sweet little study was a breakthrough in subject matter for me. When I started painting many years ago ofcourse I began with these kinds of subjects but revisiting it I was reminded that they are a whole other way to tell a visual story. I had all these decorative pumpkins around and felt possessed to paint them. I know not why- all I know is that the next day the piece was completed and it just so happened to be International Pumpkin Day. Imagine that! There is much to love here all year long. It reminds one of the feelings of harvest and that every year we can come together in the many colors of the delightful holiday spirits. 

The black field around it is an exciting experiment for me. I have tried this with other pieces but this is the first time it felt right. I love how it brings the colors out. It also achieves what is called a 'floating' look wherein the piece is not bordered by a matte edge laying on top of it but rather- it lays on the matte. Anyway that is just my personal artistic appreciation. Why not bring have the colors and feelings of this time to look upon all the year… sigh
